Blue Cosmopolitan Recipe

The Blue Cosmopolitan is a fun variation on the classic cosmopolitan drink. As the name implies, the cocktail basically tastes the same as a normal cosmo, the difference being, the color of the drink.

So, if it’s the exact same thing as the traditional cocktail, why do people order this? Perhaps, because they think it’s fun. It’s different. It looks cool. Their favorite color is blue.

All in all, the blue version of the drink is a nice trick to have up the sleeve for those occasions when a customer might ask you, the bartender, to change up his or her cocktail.

Plus, it’s a fun drink to make especially during the summer. Owing to its sweet taste and cool look, the blue cocktail will definitely have a following during the hot summer months.

You can check out a few other variations I’ve made like the Pink Cosmo which is very similar with only one ingredient change, or the Pomegranate Cosmo here made with fresh fruit for a “healthier” option of this cocktail.

The ingredients are exactly the same as a classic cosmo, save for the triple-sec. Instead of regular triple-sec, or orange-flavored liqueur, you’ll use blue curacao to make a yummy blue vodka drink.

What is blue curacao? It’s a liqueur flavored with the dried peel of the laraha citrus fruit found on the island of Curacao. The fruit is a non-native version of the orange, and was in fact originally developed from the Spanish Valencia Orange. Although the fruit itself is extremely bitter, its peel is used for its aromatic qualities and citrus flavor.

And if you really want to change this up, why not make it a frozen drink? All you need is some ice and a frozen drink blender and this becomes a new beach favorite.

About the Ingredients…

Citron Vodka

Citron vodka is a popular drink amongst vodka connoisseurs. This premium spirit offers a refreshing taste that is ideal for sipping or mixing in cocktails. Its light, sweet flavor makes it the perfect addition to any home bar.

Citron vodka is made from lemons and other citrus fruits that have been distilled into an alcohol base. It has a smooth and silky texture with hints of fresh lemon zest, making it the perfect choice for many classic cocktails such as the Cosmopolitan or Martini.

The delicate balance between sweetness and tartness makes it an excellent mixer for creamy drinks like White Russians or Mudslides too! Citron vodka also works well as a stand-alone shot served neat or on the rocks, with no additional mixers needed.

Blue Curacao

The popularity of Blue Curacao can be traced back to cocktails like this Blue Cosmopolitan cocktail, Sex on the Beach, Blue Hawaiian, and even the flamboyant Flaming Lamborghini! All these drinks contain this delicious ingredient – making it one of the most sought-after spirits in bars and nightclubs across the world. Not only does it offer a refreshing flavor but it also adds a splash of color to any beverage.

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice is a popular mixer for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks alike. It adds a burst of flavor and color to any beverage. What’s more, cranberry juice has some surprising health benefits! Whether you’re hosting a party or just chilling with friends, cranberry juice can take your drinks to the next level.

The sweet-tart taste of Cranberry Juice makes it the perfect choice for many cocktails. Cosmopolitans and Cape Codders are two classic cocktails that feature Cranberry Juice as the base ingredient. You can also mix it with other juices or spirits like vodka or rum to create unique beverages tailored to your tastes. Try our Rum and Cranberry Juice recipe here to see how light and refreshing cranberry juice can be.

Even if you don’t drink alcohol, Cranberry Juice is an ideal mixer for mocktails like Shirley Temples, Virgin Sea Breezes and Virgin Marys! The possibilities are endless!

Fresh Lime Juice

Lime juice is a classic mixer for all kinds of drinks, and it can really make or break a cocktail. But not just any lime juice will do; you want to use the freshest and best quality you can find! Fresh lime juice adds brightness, acidity, and sweetness to cocktails that bottled mixes just can’t match.

Fresh lime juice is an easy way to add delicious flavor complexity to any beverage. Not only does it provide an intense burst of acidity with its citrusy tartness, but it also brings out the natural sweetness in other ingredients like sugar or agave nectar.

Additionally, fresh lime juice has a vibrant color that makes your drink look extra special. Plus, it’s simple and quick to prepare – just squeeze limes into a glass and voila! You have fresh lime juice ready for mixing into your favorite cocktails.

Some Yummy Cosmopolitan Variations

Pomegranate Cosmopolitan – This recipe doesn’t include any cranberry juice at all and uses pomegranate juice as opposed to cranberry juice to create a new refreshing twist.

Pink Cosmopolitan – This very pretty colored drink is made by substituting homemade pink lemonade for cranberry juice and is super easy to make!

Blood Orange Cosmo – Another play on this classic is taking out the cranberry for blood orange juice. The color is awesome and it gives a slightly different taste on regular orange juice. A must try cocktail!

Grape Cosmo – This is the drink for those of you that love grape vodka! A twist on the classic, this is also one stunning looking cocktail.

Skyy Vodka Cosmo – Made with Skyy vodka, this is close to the classic with a smooth vodka to make it even yummier.
