A Day at the Beach Cocktail Recipe

Although the A Day at the Beach cocktail might look like a lot like a Tequila Sunrise, the ingredients are quite different.

Super easy to make and even looks cool. No special equipment is needed either!

The ingredients include Amaretto, orange juice, Grenadine and of course coconut rum. I always use either Malibu or Flor de Caña coconut rum. I find both to be economical and perfect for mixing.

The secret to making this look really upscale is to always serve this in a nice bar glass like a hurricane glass. That’s what you see in the picture. You’d be surprised how much a difference using a fancier glass can make both in presentation and enjoyment.

The perfect beach drink made with coconut rum, Amaretto, orange juice and Grenadine.
Prep Time 1 minute

Total Time 2 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Ounce Coconut-flavored rum
  • 1/2 Ounce Amaretto
  • 4 Ounce Orange juice
  • 1/2 Ounce Grenadine
  • Pineapple wedge and strawberry optional

Instructions

  • Grab your shaker and fill it with ice.
  • Add 1 oz of Rum, 1/2 oz of Amaretto, 4 oz of Orange Juice.
  • Shake it up and pour your cocktail into a highball glass.
  • Drizzle 1/2 oz of Grenadine on the top – by not stirring the drink, the Grenadine will sink to the bottom and create a varied color effect on the way down.
  • For a finishing touch, add a wedge of Pineapple with a fresh Strawberry.

A Day at the Beach Cocktail is just that, something that should be enjoyed in front of the ocean on a hot summer’s day. It’s one of those upscale drinks that should have an umbrella in it rather than a pineapple wedge and strawberry. Sorry, forgot the strawberry in the picture for this!

The Ingredients

Coconut-flavored rum

Personally I use Flor de Caña Rum as it’s cheap here in Nicaragua, and it’s good. Even by itself on the rocks. But Malibu is also a great alternative if you can’t get the Flor de Caña.

Amaretto

Amaretto is a slightly bitter Italian liqueur that gives this drink a nice balance of flavors and makes it so it isn’t overly sweet. This is a must have ingredient. For a day at the beach cocktail I really like Disaronno or another Italian Amaretto. Some others you can use would be Lazzaroni or Luxardo.

Orange Juice

If at all possible, go with fresh orange juice. It can really make a difference and it’s so healthy. Otherwise and regular ready made orange juice is fine. Just really shy away from the dry instant powdered stuff. it’ll make the drink too sweet.

Grenadine

There is no alcohol in Grenadine and it is one of those mixers that should be in any well stocked bar. It’s made from pomegranate juice, sugar and orange flower water which is made by simply steeping orange tree blossoms. The same people that make Rose’s lime juice also make the best and most common bottled Grenadine and it’s best to stick with Rose’s if you can.
