This drink almost looks like a glass of red wine, but it’s actually made with white. It looks its best served in either a champagne flute or white wine glass and garnished with a red fruit of your choice. You can see our list of suggested garnishes below.
What Does a Blanc Cassis Taste Like?
This drink tastes a bit sweet, but the sweetness of the white wine is toned down through the use of the creme de cassis which is far tarter and almost has an earthy flavor to it.
The two work well together balancing the sometimes sweet and fruity flavors of some white wines. This is a good way to use a cheaper white wine as the creme de cassis is strong enough to hide the “cheapness” of the wine.
What is Blanc?
Blanc can mean either “white” or a liquid that usually has wine in it and is used to cook meats and other foods with. For the Blanc Cassis, the Blanc is referring to the white wine, even though the drink’s color is red.

How to Make a Blanc Cassis?
Since the Blanc Cassis is only a two ingredient drink, it super easy to make and doesn’t even require any special bar tools.
Simply add you one ounce of Blanc Cassis to a pre-chilled champagne glass or white wine glass and then top off with your choice of white wine.
You can even use any glass you have handy, but due to is brilliant color it really should be shown off in a champagne flute or at least a nice white wine glass.
You can really make this a stand out drink by adding some glitter to the glass. Looks amazing and perfect for things like baby showers and weddings. You can see my list of the best edible glitter for drinks here.
Garnishes
Some red garnishes you can add to make this drink really pop are…
- Cherries
- Cranberries
- Red Dragon Fruit
- Red Grapes
- Pomegranates
- Raspberries
- Watermelon
The best option for this is a cherry since blackcurrants often have a slight cherry finish. Cherries not only look good as a garnish, but they actually enhance the flavor of the drink as well.
Some others that work well are strawberries for a true classy looking and classic tasting drink, or a small scoop of watermelon at the bottom of the glass for things like brunches or baby showers.
About the Ingredients
Creme de Cassis – Made from blackcurrants, Creme de Cassis gives the bright red color to this otherwise slightly white drink. This French liqueur has a slight grape flavor that pairs well with the wine in this drink. It’s tart and finishes off with a hint of cherry flavor. Gabriel Boudier is our favorite brand of Creme de Cassis.
White Wine – You want to use a decent dry white wine to make the best drink. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio both do well for this drink. Just don’t go overboard with cost as this is a mixed drink and the Creme de Cassis adds enough flavor to mask most cheaper wines.
